The 5 Problems

Creation has been on for millions of years and souls have been taking birth in the body regularly. If we scientifically look at the basis of soul, then science says energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it only changes form and body is not just elements, it is also consciousness. So obviously if we believe in modern science, then we must also believe in consciousness…At Dhyan Ashram, practitioners have reported seeing their past lives and many such past life accounts have been recorded in detail. Soul exists in different homes and different bodies. Present souls have taken birth in a number of bodies.

If you look outside the window of a plane, no matter where you are in the world, you will find hundreds of buildings and skyscrapers as the plane takes off. As it goes higher, the buildings and skyscrapers becomes smaller and smaller, and slowly they turn into millions of lights which are actually homes of people. The soul jumps from one light to the next (one home to the other), same problem, same desires, same family setup. Only faces change, rest all remains the same, even the experiences. There are millions of lights, millions of homes and millions of births for the same soul…a never ending process of physical world, something like old wine and a new bottle. The soul is fooled by maya, birth after birth and birth, till a Guru shows the light and futility of jumping from one light (home) to another. So it is interesting that when you access deeper stages of yoga and start experiencing past lives, you realise that the soul jumps from one life to other, from one building to another, from one country to the other and this goes on and on in a cyclical manner. And every time the soul takes birth in a new home, it assumes it to be the ultimate and embarks on a journey of physical success, completely forgetting that this success is temporary. The body will fade away and once again it will start in a new house, a new body. These bodies are innumerable and so are soul’s births and deaths. Every time someone dying in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital is struggling for his last birth, he makes a promise that he will do something higher or better in the next birth and with every new birth, the soul forgets its promise. Because of the forgotten promise, every birth is lower than the previous…more painful and disharmonious.

The question then arises, what binds the soul to this birth again and again and what would make the soul free from this bondage? It is the five basic problems which are common to every house or light visible from the plane window, which bind the soul to cycle of births and deaths. First is, the body which is constantly deteriorating, and one goes out looking for cures to ailments, for a better physique, to somehow arrest the ageing body and diminishing senses. Next problem pertains to finances, loss in business, better job, better car, better house…If not these two, the soul is plagued by deteriorating relationship, the want for a better partner or mending the present relationship, since every relationship is based on give and take. The fourth binding factor are emotions and instability arising from emotional attachments, so the person embarks on a search for emotional fulfilment. The fifth problem pertains to the family – the kids don’t listen, the parents are unsupportive, future of kids, want for a baby etc.

In my 20 years of teaching I have encountered these 5 basic problems with 90% of people who come to me. In the market, if you will see, the business of spirituality across religions is cashing in, on this basic weakness of the soul…which is taking the unreal to be the real and awaiting lifetimes after lifetimes, jumping from one house to the next.

Only 10% come to me for real yog and they are the ones who hold on…majority of the rest fade away…some after getting what they desired and a fraction to some businessman who has promised them a quick fix to their maladies.

It is one or more of these five problems which bind the soul to birth and death…and what releases is the gyan given by Guru.

No tattva (elements and physical assets) is greater the Guru, no penance is greater than Guru. The gyan given by Guru is supreme because it releases you from these bondages, into freedom. What this freedom is, is an experience which is individualistic and is a part of the journey of the spirit…..between the Guru and the shishya.
