What Is Attraction?

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Google defines it as the quality of an object/person/place etc. to arouse your interest in it, create a liking for it. Attraction, however, is not just mere interest; it is something that creates helplessness in you, you have no choice but to go to that object of attraction.

Attraction stems from an inherent weakness in an entity, a stronger force attracts a weaker force, and it is this attraction of one energy with the other that leads to creation. Entire creation is based on the principle of attraction. Earth is held in its place by the attraction of sun. You are held to the earth because of the earth’s attraction. Even in your body, the various cells are attracted to each other and this attraction holds the body together.

Whether that attraction is for money, a relationship or for yog, depends on the state of evolution of an individual and you cannot escape that attraction, for it renders you helpless. For example, if you try to lure a vegetarian with a chicken preparation, he will not be affected by it, no matter how hungry he is, a non-vegetarian on the other hand will be driven by desire. No matter what you say or think that you desire, whatever is your inherent desire will pull you towards it. And there is no one who can be in the body and not have a desire. You have taken a body because there is a weakness (desire), had there been no desire, there would have been no need for you to take birth and once your desires are met, there is no need for you to stay in the body. You go back to the source, Mata Adi Shakti, she who is beyond all desires and weaknesses. She is the ultimate source of attraction, the only one, rest everything including the trideva (Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh) is bound by the principle of attraction.

On the basis of your desires and the positive karma behind, you are attracted to things and have the ability to experience them. Divinity is the most difficult to achieve as it requires a lot of positive karma and a single pointed desire to achieve….any dilution in karma or desire has the effect of pulling you towards the physical aspects of creation like work, arts, relationships etc. You, because of the veil of maya forget that all these are temporary and would finish fast, you reason with yourself that,”I am looking for God, but these are my responsibilities so I must carry them out myself. God I will ALSO achieve.” It is this ALSO which will dilute you and God will evade you. Fooling creation by calling your desires your responsibilities and important work is not possible; the only person you will fool is yourself.

This attraction which the divine holds and you dilute by your lack of focus is very much achievable in you also. By following the path of ek tattwa nirantar abhyas with your Guru you can achieve this attraction in you and develop it to such a degree that you will attract also the devas towards yourself. But this is not possible if you are trying to fool creation. A tapasvi’s power is enumerated below.

Once the trideva had gone for a sabha (meeting), where after every few minutes each would disappear and then reappear. So the devas asked them that why do they disappear. The reply was, ‘We are vivash (helpless). Whenever a devotee crosses a certain level of tapa, we have to go to him/her.’ Such is the glow and attraction of tapa. Even though the trinity is beyond desire, they are tied by their responsibilities and this responsibility creates a desire to oblige the one who has generated that heat of attraction (tapa). If they do not do that, that heat of tapa will keep on increasing and create disturbance in creation. For instance, Sage Vishvamitra had done severe penance and he did not want anything, his tapa generated so much heat that it was creating  chaos. So he was requested to ask for something, and he asked for Sage Vashishtha to admit that he was superior to him that is all that he desired. He was granted that and he made an exit restoring balance. So even responsibility of the tridevas stems from desire, desire for creation, which is again a weakness, such that even all devas and devis combined cannot prevent that attraction from playing out if the sadhak has the focus, intensity and the power of tapa.

The moral of the story is to stop trying to fool creation by justifications of your responsibilities….never forget that the path shown by your Guru is supreme and ultimate; to walk it you also have to have a matching desire.
