Cymbopogon Citratus, also known as silky heads, Cochin grass, and Malabar grass, is a tall perennial grass species native to tropical and sub-tropical climates of Asia, Africa, and Australia. India is the largest producer of lemongrass. The stalk of lemongrass is used as a culinary herb to make teas and add flavor to food, particularly in Southeast Asian cuisine. It can be used in both fresh and dried forms. Its aroma resembles lemon, hence the name lemongrass. The essential oil extracted from lemongrass finds applications in soaps, perfumes, and aromatherapy. The citral component of lemongrass acts as an effective insect repellent.
