Creation exists in layers. There are subtler layers where the subtler energies or gods dwell. Similarly there are grosser layers, where ghosts and spirits reside. What attracts the former, repulses the latter and what attracts the latter, repulses the former. This is not theory. I am testimony to it.

This happened a few days after I shifted to a new PG Accommodation. It was evening time and I sat down to do my daily kriya. As I closed my eyes, there was a clear vision of a dark figure. The small voice inside me told me that something was not right, but the brain of a post-graduate degree holder told me to wave it off. I listened to the latter. Moments later, I heard loud noises coming from the cupboard, as if someone was banging its doors from the inside. Once again, I let it pass and thought to myself, maybe there was someone outside or some machinery…after all it was a new PG and I was yet to get used to the place and its dynamics.

The dynamics of the place, as it turned out, were off the ordinary…From that day on, it became a routine experience. Every time I would sit for dhyan, the banging of the cupboard doors would begin. And, I was not the only one hearing that noise. I have a roommate who could hear it too and did not know what to make of it except that it happened only when I did my kriya.

My roommate was visiting her parents the following weekend. I got a little late in returning from college that Friday. It was late evening, when I made it to the PG. I was all alone and as I entered the place, an eerie sensation took over me. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a black figure moving…the same I had seen in dhyan that day. Except, now I could see it with open eyes! I could hear my heart pounding and my feet were frozen to the ground. With great effort I lifted my foot and went straight for the door. Out of the PG, I shook myself a little and decided to go for a walk to get some fresh air. It seemed like the fatigue of a long day had gotten into my head.

Half an hour later I came back to my room. Everything seemed perfectly normal. I swore at myself for having crazy ideas. I grabbed a snack and sat on the couch to watch television. Minutes later, I felt some movement behind me. Someone seemed to be pacing behind the couch. I thought that it might be one of my PG mates but then it struck me, that I was alone tonight. And the possibility of anyone coming was zero, for I had locked the door behind me. A chill ran down my spine. I wanted to scream and run, but my body refused to even move an inch. After sometime, the pacing stopped and whoever was there, seemed to have gone.

I did not want to be at the PG alone now, and contacted my relatives who stayed close-by. They were out of town due to the festive season and so I had nowhere else to be, but the PG. I played Yogiji’s chants on my laptop and felt calm. I decided to sleep in another room for the night as the activity was more in my room. As I lay in the bed praying for sleep to find me, the door of the room opened wide open. I felt someone enter and then leave. I continued playing the chants in the room and fell asleep listening to them. When I opened my eyes, it was morning. I heaved a sigh of relief.

After the night’s events, I was certain I wasn’t imagining things. I narrated the incident to Yogiji. He asked me not to worry and assured that nothing would happen to me. There was not one noise or movement after that, no dark figures…I stayed alone in the PG for the entire weekend and am still living there…the environment of the PG has transformed completely. Our Guest, it appears, left that day.
